The best space isn’t defined by a label — it’s defined by how well it supports the way you live.
Hi, I’m Mary
I’m 25, and I live in Vermont — a small, quiet state where life moves a little slower and homes feel like they’re meant to be lived in, not just admired. My love for creating cozy, thoughtful spaces didn’t start with a sudden spark or a trend I fell into. It started much earlier, at home, with my mom.
My mother is a deeply detail-oriented person. Growing up, she cared a lot about how our home looked and felt, and she’d often ask me to help with cleaning and organizing from a young age. I didn’t think much of it at the time. I just noticed that things had their places, and that small changes could somehow make the whole house feel calmer.
Chasing photos, then learning to look closer
As I got older, I went through the phase a lot of people go through — saving beautifully styled homes, trying to recreate what I saw online, and wondering why my own space never quite felt right. The rooms looked fine, but they didn’t feel easy to live in. I kept rearranging furniture, clearing out things that felt unnecessary, searching for a kind of comfort that photos alone could never give me.
Wanting to understand why, I started learning more intentionally. Over the past four years, I’ve read books, taken courses, and studied home renovation and interior design across different cultures — from the quiet restraint of Japanese and Korean spaces to the warmth and balance found in European homes.
What actually changed things
With time, I realized that not everything translates. What feels right in one place doesn’t always work in another, and beauty without context tends to fall flat in real life. That became my turning point. I stopped chasing styles and started paying attention to what actually worked — how a space supported daily routines, how light moved through a room, how small, thoughtful choices could make a home feel calmer without trying too hard.
Over time, those moments shaped the way I see space. Creating calmer, more comfortable rooms became my favorite way to unwind — not by forcing one specific style onto a home, but by understanding what actually suits the people living in it. I started sharing what I’d learned with friends, too. Some loved clean, minimal spaces; others were drawn to warmer, layered looks like boho or something more structured and modern. Using the same core principles — balance, light, flow, everyday function — I helped them rethink small things in ways that felt more natural for how they actually lived, not for a trend.
Eventually, I needed somewhere to gather everything I was learning — not as strict rules, but as notes and observations I could revisit and share. That’s why I started Houzerio: a personal space to document what I’ve learned, and make it accessible to anyone looking for ideas that feel thoughtful, realistic, and human. You’ll find a calm, cozy thread running through the site, but you’ll also see different design styles woven in along the way — because the best space isn’t defined by a label, it’s defined by how well it supports the way you live.
One honest note: Houzerio is a personal space, shaped by my own experiences, observations, and ongoing learning — not a set of rules from a design professional. Everything here comes from real life: trying things, getting them wrong, adjusting, and slowly figuring out what works. Some ideas may not be perfect, and some may not apply to every home — and that’s okay. Homes are personal, and learning how a space works takes time, patience, and a bit of trial and error. That’s also why Houzerio keeps evolving — shaped not just by my own experience, but by conversations, shared stories, and different perspectives along the way.
I always love hearing from you. Whether you have a question, want to share an idea, or just feel like saying hello, you can reach out anytime through the Contact page. I read every message and do my best to reply. Your thoughts genuinely help shape Houzerio into a space that feels helpful and connected.
Thank you for being here
Every time you read a post, save an idea, or come back for inspiration, you’re supporting this journey more than you know. I’m genuinely grateful, and excited to keep growing Houzerio at a steady, intentional pace. Creating a home isn’t just about how a space looks — it’s about how it makes you feel. My hope is that every time you visit, you leave with a small spark of inspiration and a bit more confidence to shape your space in a way that feels right for you.
With love,
Mary
